At least one person was injured in a Newport Beach car accident after two vehicles collided at a street intersection, the afternoon of September 21, 2012. According to the Daily Pilot, the injury collision occurred at the intersection of Newport Coast Drive and Vista Ridge Road. Officials say the accident involved a delivery truck and a small passenger vehicle. The five-ton truck and a smaller car came into “full-speed contact” at the intersection, police said. One person was transported to an area trauma center in stable condition. Both vehicles were traveling at about 40 mph at the time of the crash.

A major car accident in Santa Clarita involving two cars and a big rig left two people dead and several others injured early morning on September 4, 2012. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the fatal crash occurred on the 5 Freeway near Gorman. California Highway Patrol officials say the cars were traveling southbound and collided with each other for an unknown reason. Four of the injured have been hospitalized in critical condition, while five more sustained non-life-threatening injuries. At least one of the victims is a child who has been rushed to the hospital for treatment. The investigation is ongoing.

Four people were hospitalized in a Los Angeles car accident that involved several vehicles, including a police cruiser, the morning of August 30, 2012. According to a news article in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the multi-car crash occurred on the westbound 60 Freeway near Hacienda Boulevard in Hacienda Heights. Officials are still trying to determine what caused the LAPD Ford Crown Victoria, tow truck, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Toyota Solara sedan, Toyota Sienna minivan and Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck to collide. A woman inside the PT Cruiser was hospitalized, as were two men and a woman. None of the injuries appear to have been life threatening.

August 5, 2012-San Clemente, CA-The Orange County Register reports that a Wednesday morning accident brought traffic to a halt as a large truck crash spilled debris across several lanes of I-5 near Avenida Pico off-ramp.

The crash occurred around 6:00 a.m. when a truck carrying bags of cement or paint overturned and wound up on its side, spilling its cargo onto the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol. Caltrans immediately dispatched workers to clean the debris to prevent further crashes or injuries, and a SIG alert was issued for the area. The debris was not completely cleared for about two hours, and CHP says that minor injuries were reported. However, officials have not released the cause of the crash at this time.

My sincere wishes for a speedy recovery go out to any victims injured in this crash and my congratulations to the California Highway Patrol and Caltrans for clearing the debris quickly to avoid further damages.

Two people were seriously injured in an Orange County car accident after a van and a Coca-Cola truck collided at a street intersection. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury crash occurred at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Rio Vista Street, the afternoon of July 2, 2012. Anaheim police say a Ford Aerostar van was traveling south on Rio Vista when he ran a red light and broadsided the Coca-Cola, which was westbound on Lincoln. The male driver and female passenger in the Aerostar were transported to UCI Medical Center with life threatening injuries. The driver of the Coca-Cola truck was uninjured.

Crawford Grant Reeves, 77, was killed in a Huntington Beach car accident after the parked car in which he was sitting was struck from behind by a tow truck. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car accident occurred early morning on May 10, 2012 near the intersection of Springdale and McCarthy streets. Police say Reeves and his 13-year-old grandson were sitting in a Chevy Impala that was parked along Springdale Street when a 2011 Dodge Ram tow truck crashed into the back of the parked car. The driver of the tow truck was not injured. Reeves and his grandson were transported to an area hospital where Reeves died. His grandson did not suffer life threatening injuries. So far, no arrests or citations have been issued in connection with this fatal crash. An investigation is ongoing.

Truck accidents cost the economy 2.7 billion dollars last year. Studies have shown that lower rates for paying truck drivers have caused an increase in risk-taking behavior.

Two drivers in Riverside California died after a big-rig truck accident on Route 79. At 10 a.m. between San Jacinto and Perris California, a Dodge Ram pickup truck towing a motor home lost control and veered onto traffic, colliding head on with a big-rig truck that was transporting animal feed. The impact caused both truck drivers serious injuries and they were not able to survive. Both were over the age of 70.
