Margarita McIntosh, 75, was killed in a Ventura pedestrian accident, which officials say involved a school bus driver who was under the influence of drugs. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Woodland Street and Brookshire Avenue, the afternoon of September 26, 2012. Officials say the school bus carrying 11 children was heading north on Brookshire when it made a left turn on Woodland striking the elderly pedestrian who was walking in a crosswalk.

McIntosh was transported in critical condition to an area hospital where she died. The school bus driver, 54-year-old Joanne Madaule, was under the influence of unspecified drugs at the time, California Highway Patrol officials said. She was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and for being under the influence of a controlled substance. The investigation is ongoing.

Officials said an SUV exiting the 118 Freeway ran a red light and crashed into a truck that was carrying electrical equipment. The impact caused the truck driver to lose control and strike two other vehicles. Six people were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. It is not clear if the driver of the SUV was cited for the red light violation.

Thu Nguyen, 81, was fatally injured in a Garden Grove car accident after a car struck her. Two women, one of them identified as 40-year-old Irma Zamora, were killed and five others were injured after a car crash in Valley Village. According to a report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the two women were good Samaritans who rushed to help the occupants of an SUV that crashed into a light pole near the intersection of Magnolia Boulevard and Ben Avenue, the night of August 22, 2012. The collision knocked down light pole and created a highly charged pool of water electrocuting Zamora and the other woman who came forward to help. Five others also suffered electrical shocks and were hospitalized and remain in serious condition. Officials are also looking into why the driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Irma Zamora and the other deceased victim who had good intentions in trying to save the crash victims. Marvin Adams, 66, was killed in a car crash in Riverside County after his wheelchair was struck by a vehicle at a street intersection. According to a news article in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Limonite and Hamner avenues in Eastvale, the morning of August 19, 2012. Police say Adams’ battery-powered wheelchair was in a crosswalk and had reached the eastbound fast lane of Limonite Avenue when a Hyundai Azera crashed into it.
