Four firefighters and a suspected drunk driver were injured in a San Diego car accident the morning of June 13, 2010. According to a San Diego 6 news report, the injury collision occurred on a two-lane road northeast of Alpine near the Viejas Casino. California Highway Patrol officials say 25-year-old Yesenia Mitre got out of the casino parking lot and pulled out in front of the fire truck that was responding to a medical aid call. The impact of the collision caused the fire rig to lose its front axle. The fire truck continued out of control and slammed into a utility pole. Four firefighters sustained non life-threatening injuries. Mitre was injured, but is expected to be arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving.

I’m glad to note that the firefighters did not sustain major injuries in this crash. I wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

On July 26, 2009, Janice Silva was walking from the beach in San Clemente, California. She headed toward the Linda Lane parking area and noticed the walkway and curb she needed to travel on were obscured by several inches of seaweed, sand and other debris. She tried to carefully continue, but it was very hard to distinguish between the edges of the walkway and the adjacent curb, and her foot got stuck in sunken debris. Her foot was trapped and immobile, but her body continued forward, causing the bones in her leg to twist and break. Janice endured serious injury from this accident because the conditions of the public property were so unsafe.

The California personal injury lawyers of Bisnar Chase Personal Injury Attorneys (www.BestAttorney.com) have filed a lawsuit against the city of San Clemente for the dangerous conditions of public property that allegedly caused Janice’s permanent and disabling personal injury. The action has been brought against the defendants by Janice and her husband, who was with her at the time of the incident.

Many major cities have dedicated bicycle lanes where cyclists are encouraged to ride. Motor Vehicle Code 21208 demands that riders stay inside the lanes when they are available. There have been many discussions on the importance of bike lanes, and whether they really do promote safe travel. We always encourage you to obey the traffic laws and ride in bike lanes when they are available. It is always a good idea, though, to keep in mind some of the reasons behind bike lanes, as well as some of their pitfalls.

After a grueling 97.7 miles and back-to-back hills she calls the “Evil Twins”, the Newport Beach Personal Injury Lawyers sponsored rider, Loree Glenn, was elated for the 67.7 miles of mostly flat terrain and a tailwind to boost her as she road mostly downhill on Day 5 of her 575 mile journey.

Loree had to overcome some challenges during this part of the ride that nature threw at the riders. Although the terrain was mostly flat and downhill, shortly after their lunch break in Solvang, the wind changed directions and became a powerful force to ride against. As Loree raced downhill, she had to continue peddling fiercely to avoid the wind stopping her momentum and bringing her to a complete stop.
