Three people sustained injuries in a San Diego car accident, which officials say was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the crash occurred the afternoon of March 12, 2010 on the State Route 67 near the San Vicente Reservoir. Jason Cooley, the 22-year-old driver of a Chevrolet Impala, who was northbound on the highway, crossed over into opposing traffic lanes and struck a Toyota Yaris. Sean Harkey, the driver of the Yaris, suffered a broken arm and leg. Cooley and his infant son sustained injuries that were described as “not serious.” California Highway Patrol officials say Cooley was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

I wish Harkey, the most seriously injured victim in this crash, the very best for a quick and full recovery. Considering that an infant was involved in this head-on crash, it is indeed fortunate that there were no catastrophic injuries.

The Ventura County Star reports that the major injury crash occurred on March 15, 2010, on the Highway 101. California Highway Patrol officials say 19-year-old Giovanny Ruiz was driving at speeds of over 90 mph in the northbound lanes of Highway 101, near Telephone Road, when he lost control of his vehicle and struck an SUV being driven by Lamb, on its driver’s side. The SUV went off the roadway and slammed into a tree. Both Lamb and Drake sustained major injuries, while Ruiz suffered minor injuries.

It is indeed fortunate that the injuries sustained by these victims were not life-threatening although they were serious. I wish both Lamb and Drake the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep them in your prayers.

Two young boys — Marcus Tucker, 4, and 1-year-old Micah Tucker — died in a swimming pool accident after they drowned in the backyard pool of a Bakersfield home. According to an ABC News report, the brothers drowned the morning of March 17, 2010 when the boys’ mother, Candice Tucker, was at work. She had left the boys with her two roommates. One roommate was sleeping and another was in the bathroom when the boys went to the backyard and somehow fell into the pool. Family members believed that Micah must have accidentally fallen in and Marcus must have jumped in to save him. Both boys were found at the bottom of the pool.

This is a heartbreaking story. I offer my deepest condolences to the mother, Candice Tucker. I can only imagine the guilt and grief she must be feeling at this point. This family will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.

The debate about pit bulls is getting louder in one Southern California community after a vicious dog bite incident in Fontana involving five pit bull mixes almost killed 5-year-old Destiny Colon and injured three of her siblings. Also, recently, a 3-year-old Apple Valley boy was fatally attacked by the family’s pit bull. A Hesperia woman recently suffered a broken arm after her own pit bull attacked her in October. With these and other recently recorded cases, there appears to be no shortage of dog attacks involving pit bulls.

Why is that? Some say that it is not the dogs’ fault. Pit bull advocates say that this breed gets a bad rap because of “neglect by irresponsible owners.” However, according to a recent article in The San Bernardino Sun, many in the local community, who have witnessed vicious behavior by pit bulls and pit bull mixes, say that pit bulls have a natural “mean streak” compared to other breeds of dogs.
