Ruben C. Vasquez, 20, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident on the 60 Freeway after a suspected drunk driver rear-ended him, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports. California Highway Patrol officials say Vasquez was driving a 2006 Chevy Cobalt on the freeway, in Chino, the morning of June 20, 2010, when his vehicle was struck from behind by 33-year-old Daniel Rosas. Two minutes later, another suspected drunk driver crashed into Rosas’ 2007 Nissan Frontier while he was still sitting in the car. That driver Alex Ruiz Leal, 23, as well as Rosas were arrested on suspicion of DUI. Vasquez was transported to a local hospital where he died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Walter Williams, 37, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after he was struck by a vehicle that was involved in a police pursuit. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times, Williams was traveling northbound on Francisquito Avenue in Baldwin Park the morning of June 18, 2010, when he was hit by an SUV at the intersection of Ramona Boulevard. The stolen SUV was being pursued by two police cars. Williams was ejected from his vehicle due to the impact of the collision that also caused his car to burst into flames. He died at the scene.

A car accident in Santa Clarita injured two people the morning of June 15, 2010. The Orange County Register reports that the collision occurred at the intersection of Pico Canyon Road and Stevenson Ranch Parkway when 17-year-old Jessie Frutos of Garden Grove, driving a 2005 Mercedes Benz E55, drove into the path of a Los Angeles Sheriff’s patrol car driven by 24-year-old Deputy Blake Carpenter. Frutos was heading east on Pico Canyon. An investigation is ongoing.

A man was fatally injured in a pedestrian accident the night of June 13, 2010 near the Cahuenga Pass, the Los Angeles Times reports. The fatal collision occurred in the 4200 block of North Cahuenga Boulevard. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Four others in the vehicle that struck the pedestrian were also injured in the resulting crash. Firefighters rescued one person who was pinned under the vehicle. All injured victims were taken to local medical centers. An investigation is ongoing.

A worker at an alternative fuel plant in Simi Valley sustained fatal job injuries after an explosion shook the facility and an entire neighborhood the afternoon of June 17, 2010. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, the worker, who has not yet been identified, was working in Realm Industries’ facility at 480 E. Easy Street in Simi Valley. Fire officials say the blast caused a partial collapse of the building and put a hole in the roof.

Destanee Arlene Little, 19, was killed and two others — 20-year-old David Heredia and Chaunnel Renberg, 20 — were hurt in a DUI collision near Lodi, California. According to a News-Sentinel article, the fatal car crash occurred the night of June 12, 2010 on West Lane at Armstrong Road. Little was driving an Oldsmobile Cutlass south on West Lane and nearing Armstrong. At that point, Benjamin Serratos III, 29, who was driving a 2008 Honda Accord, rear-ended Little’s vehicle. The Cutlass then went out of control and crashed into a traffic light.

On June 10, 2010 the Los Angeles personal injury lawyers at Bisnar Chase Personal Injury Attorneys attended the OC BBQ Festival to display their booth on behalf of Kristy’s Foundation. This event was a state championship BBQ with a rib eating contest, BBQ pageant, car show, live music and an awesome kid zone. Two people were injured in an Irvine car accident after their respective vehicles collided at a local street intersection. The Orange County Register reports that the injury collision happened at the intersection of Paseo Westpark and Barranca Parkway the morning of June 15, 2010. Orange County Fire Authority officials say the accident occurred when a Ford SUV and a Honda sedan struck each other. Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the female driver of the Ford SUV. Both injured victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. An investigation is ongoing.

With the World Cup currently underway, soccer has been given more attention in the United States than it normally enjoys. While the big stage is set down in South Africa, back in Ohio the soccer scene is making headlines. As reported by the Edmonton Sun, a local dad got into a racially fueled argument following a match and the result was violence and injury.

Dean Smith (the dad in question) was a sideline spectator to the game. However, as the game wound down, the arguments between he and the opposing players become more dangerous. They pursued him after the match and began throwing insults his way. It is reported the players called him “short” and a “white faggot.” Smith stated this his response was as follows: “I told him I was going to rip his f**ing do-rag off his head and shove it up his a** if he didn’t shut up.”
