Woman Killed in Playa Del Rey Hit and Run Crash

By

Wendy Galdamez Palma, 33, was killed and her 3-year-old son was injured in a hit and run crash in Playa Del Rey on the night of Sept. 11.

According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, Palma was struck by a dark-colored sedan while crossing Vista Del Mar to get to her vehicle. At the time, she was cradling her 3-year-old son who was taken to the hospital with injuries. He is expected to survive, but Palma died from her injuries.

Ongoing Investigation

At the time of the collision, Palma’s other young child was with her husband. The family had spent time at the beach, and was walking to their car when the fatal crash occurred, LAPD officials said. The crash remains under investigation by the LAPD for felony hit and run. The suspect vehicle is believed to have sustained significant front-end damage. Anyone with more information was asked to call the LAPD.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of Wendy Galdamez Palma for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband and their two young sons who are grieving her sudden loss.

Leaving the Scene of a Crash

Based on this news report, it appears that the family was enjoying some time at the beach on a summer night and getting back to their vehicle when tragedy struck. Officials have also said that the driver who struck and fatally injured Palma did not stop or remain at the scene, despite the fact that her toddler was also injured.

It is illegal under California Vehicle Code 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”

Justice for Victims and Families

We certainly hope the hit-and-run driver is apprehended and brought to justice. Injured victims or families of deceased hit-and-run victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles hit-and-run lawyer who will stay abreast of the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.

A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also be able to advise victims or families about how their own auto insurance policy might apply to an incident where the at-fault driver has not been identified, or in a case where the at-fault driver is uninsured or underinsured.
