Video Shows Skateboarder Fatally Struck by Hit and Run Driver in Tarzana

Los Angeles Police Department officials have released video footage as they seek the public’s help to identify a hit-and-run driver who killed a woman on a skateboard in Tarzana.

According to a KTLA news report, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred early morning on Sept. 14 when a silver, four-door sedan traveling southbound on Tampa Avenue south of Oxnard Street.

The vehicle collided with a pedestrian riding a skateboard that was traveling outside a marked crosswalk on Tampa. The driver of the sedan fled the vehicle going south on Tampa without stopping or rendering aid. LA Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the skateboarder dead. She has been described as a woman in her 30s.

Ongoing Investigation

KTLA reports that surveillance video from the area shows the woman using her foot to stop the skateboard as she turns back and appears to not the car zooming in her direction. She can be seen trying to get out of the way before the vehicle struck her. The hit-and-run vehicle has been described as a possible 2013-2018 Toyota Avalon silver sedan with damage to the front end of the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing. Officials have offered a reward of up to $50,000 to community members who provide information leading to the hit-and-run driver’s identification, apprehension, or conviction. Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to contact LAPD detectives at 818-644-8036.

Responsibility of Drivers

LAPD officials have used this incident to remind drivers that it is their responsibility to stop and remain at the scene after an injury or fatal collision regardless of who was at fault for the incident.
