Video Shows Hit-and-Run Driver Speeding Down 91 Freeway with Motorcycle Wrapped Around Front Bumper

By

Cell phone video has captured the driver of a minivan speeding down the 91 Freeway in Corona with a motorcycle wrapped around the front bumper. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the person who shot the video said the scene unfolded the night of June 19. The hit and run driver eventually got off the freeway in McKinley where he or she abandoned the van and fled on foot.

California Highway Patrol officials said the hit and run collision occurred on the eastbound lanes of the 91 Freeway just west of the 15 Freeway in Corona when the driver of the minivan struck the motorcyclist and failed to stop. The motorcyclist was said to have complained about pain to the arms and legs. It’s not clear if the motorcyclist suffered any other injuries. No one has been taken into custody in connection with this collision.

Our thoughts are prayers are with the injured motorcyclist. We wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Hit and Run Laws

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the minivan struck the motorcycle and left the scene dragging the motorcycle along for a considerable distance on the freeway. Under California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a), it is illegal to leave the scene of an injury or fatal crash.

Motorists are required to stop immediately at the scene of the crash, remain there until officials arrive and most importantly, render aid to the injured victim. In this particular case, the motorcyclist could have been further injured by passing vehicles who might not have seen the injured individual on the freeway. Thankfully, that did not occur in this case.

Compensation for Victims

In such cases, hit-and-run victims can seek compensation from the at-fault motorist for damages including medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress. If the hit-and-run driver is not identified or found, injured victims may be able to claim compensation through the uninsured motorist clause of their own auto insurance policies. An experienced Riverside hit and run lawyer will be able to guide injured victims and their families through what could be a complex process and help them secure maximum compensation for their tremendous losses.
