A 57-year-old woman was killed in a pedestrian accident in Van Nuys. According to a KABC news report, the incident occurred the night of May 29, 2016 in the 16400 block of Victory Boulevard. LAPD officials said the woman was crossing the street when a vehicle struck her. A Good Samaritan stopped and called 911. But, the pedestrian’s injuries were so severe that she died at the scene. The 18-year-old driver of the vehicle that struck the woman fled the scene, but he later turned himself in to authorities. He is facing felony hit-and-run charges. Police are still investigating this fatal pedestrian accident.

Ching Fong Liu, 82, was killed in a car accident in La Habra the night of May 19, 2016. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Arbolita Drive. Officers responding to the scene reported that two women and two children were injured. One of the women, Liu, died from her injuries later. They haven’t released information regarding the cause of the crash. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the La Habra Police Department’s traffic unit at 562-383-4300.

One person was killed in a fiery car crash in Orange, which officials say, was caused by a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car accident occurred the night of May 12, 2016 at the intersection of East Chapman Avenue and South Yorba Street. Police say 32-year-old Stephanie Marine DeRosas was driving west on Chapman when she rear-ended a vehicle near South Yorba Street. The impact of the collision caused the rear-ended car to go into the intersection where it sideswiped another vehicle and caught fire.

Horrific Collision

When officials arrived at the scene, the rear-ended vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. The driver, who was the sole occupant of that vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The gender and the identity of that driver has not yet been determined. DeRosas was hospitalized with serious injuries, but is expected to be booked on suspicion of DUI. The female driver of the side-swiped vehicle was also injured, but she is expected survive. DeRosas was also driving on a license that was suspended on Oct. 27, 2014 for negligent operation, the Register reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Robert Telles Jr., 25, a U.S. Marine was killed in a rollover crash in Orange the morning of May 4, 2016. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal rollover crash occurred on the northbound 57 Freeway near the Chapman Avenue exit. California Highway Patrol officials said Telles was driving a 1991 Honda CR-X at about 65 mph when he swerved from the middle lane and crashed into the concrete railing near Chapman Avenue. The vehicle rolled over and landed on its roof. Telles was pronounced dead at the scene.

Felix Navarette, 74, died four days after he was critically injured in a Santa Ana pedestrian accident. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the incident occurred the night of April 30, 2016. Navarette was crossing North Fairview Street when a Honda headed northbound tried to turn right onto West 5th Street and struck Navarette who was walking in a marked crosswalk.

He was transported to an area trauma center where he died from his injuries four days later. The driver remained at the scene of the crash. Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors. The investigation is ongoing.

A 63-year-old grandmother was killed and five others were injured, including three of the woman’s grandchildren, in a multi-vehicle car accident in Valley Glen. According to an NBC Los Angeles news report, the fatal accident occurred the afternoon of May 1, 2016 in the 12700 block of Vanowen Street. Police said a white 2011 BMW tried to pass a silver Ford Mustang that was traveling westbound. The BMW clipped the Mustang whose driver lost control of the vehicle and then hit a pickup truck. Police have arrested a driver after a fatal pedestrian accident in South Los Angeles. According to an NBC Los Angeles news report, the fatal collision occurred the night of April 21, 2016 at the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Gramercy Place. LAPD officials say the pedestrian was walking in a marked crosswalk when a vehicle struck him. The impact of the collision caused the man to become airborne and then hit the pavement. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver fled the scene. Police, however, located the vehicle in Inglewood. They later arrested the man believed to be the driver. The victim was identified as a man in his 30s. The investigation is still ongoing.

Polaris Industries will recall about 133,000 recreational all-terrain vehicles in the United States because they pose a fire risk. According to a Reuters news report, the company has received more than 160 reports of fire involving the models, including one that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old passenger, and 19 injuries. Wagner Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stockton is facing two nursing home lawsuits alleging wrongful death, elder abuse and neglect. According to a report in the Stockton Record, the wrongful death lawsuit was filed in Orange County Superior Court by the son of Robert Lampkins, who died August 15, 2015, alleging that the nursing home knowingly withheld care to the elderly man who was suffering from severe bed sores that had become infected and ultimately caused his death. Pia Botz, 69, and her daughter Erica Botz, 31, were both killed in a West Hills pedestrian accident the night of April 11, 2016. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Jason Avenue. Mother and daughter were walking with their black Labrador retriever in a marked crosswalk when a red Mitsubishi SUV heading west struck them.

The women were in a crosswalk trying to cross to the south side of the street. The daughter was pronounced dead at the scene while the mother was taken to a local hospital where she was also pronounced dead. The driver remained at the scene and is not being charged at this time. Officials do not believe speed was a factor in this incident. The investigation is ongoing.
