Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident

By

John Titlow, 47, was killed in a motorcycle accident the evening of July 3, 2010, after he lost control of his 2008 Harley Davidson and crashed. According to a news report in The Vacaville Reporter, Titlow was entering eastbound Interstate 80 from northbound Suisun Valley Road, in Fairfield, when he lost control of the motorcycle and drove off the roadway. California Highway Patrol officials say Titlow was thrown off the motorcycle and sustained major injuries. Witnesses stopped to assist the injured motorcyclist, but he died at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of John Titlow for their tragic loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to CHP’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there was one fatality and 31 injuries involving motorcycle accidents in Fairfield, California. In Solano County as a whole, eight people died and 99 were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents during the same year.

What Caused this Accident?

Based on this news report, it is not clear how or why Titlow lost control of his Harley Davidson. There are several questions here. Was there an auto product defect in the Harley, which caused Titlow to lose control? Was there a dangerous or defective condition on the roadway, which may have caused or contributed to this fatal crash? Were there other vehicles involved in this accident? For example, was Titlow run off the roadway by another vehicle? I trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine exactly what occurred here and why.

Liability Issues

If a vehicle defect is determined to have been the reason for this fatal motorcycle crash, then, the manufacturer of the motorcycle or the defective auto part could be held liable for Titlow’s wrongful death. If a dangerous or defective condition on the roadway caused the accident, then the governmental agency responsible for maintaining that roadway could also be held liable. Please remember that any personal injury or wrongful death claim against a California public entity must be properly filed within six months of the incident. Victims’ families would be well-advised to contact an experienced California personal injury lawyer, who will advise them about their legal rights and options.
