Fourteen people were injured, two critically, after a 15-passenger van collided with another vehicle in Lancaster the afternoon of April 6. According to a KTLA news report, passengers in the 15-passenger van had chartered it in Culver City for a trip to Lancaster to view the poppy fields. The van was traveling westbound along Avenue F when it slammed into a Mini Cooper going north on 60th Street. The van rolled over twice before hitting a light pole and coming to a stop. Two men suffered injuries in a San Diego car crash after the SUV in which they were traveling went out of control and rolled over multiple times. According to a 10News report, the rollover crash occurred the night of August 13, 2012 on the Interstate 5 just south of Del Mar Heights Road. California Highway Patrol officials say it is not clear what caused the vehicle to go out of control. The Ford Explorer SUV landed on its wheels after rolling over several times, trapping the two men inside. They were extricated and transported to a local hospital. Their injuries have been described as non-life-threatening.

Tyler Macchiavello, 20, was killed in a Tustin car accident after he was ejected from the Ford Explorer SUV he was driving. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal rollover accident occurred the morning of August 3, 2012 on the northbound 55 Freeway at the Interstate 5. California Highway Patrol officials say the Ford SUV flipped and Macchiavello was ejected from the SUV. He had been traveling in the number two lane when he swerved into the number four lane. Officials suspect that he was not wearing a seatbelt. He was transported to an area hospital with major injuries. He died about 13 hours after the crash. An investigation is ongoing.

I offer my deepest sympathies to the family members and friends of Tyler Macchiavello for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Two female drivers were injured in an Orange County car accident involving five vehicles, the morning of October 20, 2011. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the car accident occurred in the southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway, near the 73 Freeway, in Costa Mesa. Officials say that a Toyota Solara was travelling at a high rate of speed before colliding with a Ford Explorer, a Lincoln limousine, an airport shuttle van and a Hyundai Tiberon. The Ford Explorer rolled over during the collision and the female driver was injured. The driver of the Solara was ejected from her vehicle during the collision. It is not clear if the driver of the Solara will be cited for the crash. An investigation is ongoing.

Robert William Cusack, 47, was killed in a San Bernardino rollover car accident near Highway 395 and Shadow Mountain Road in Adelanto on July 4, 2009, according to a news report in the Victorville Daily Press. Cusack was heading east on Shadow Mountain Road in a black 2007 Toyota Tacoma, when the truck left the roadway and rolled over several times. Cusack was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after the car crash. California Highway Patrol officials are still trying to determine what caused Cusack’s truck to leave the roadway.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Robert William Cusack for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. I offer my deepest sympathies to everyone who knew and loved this man. Please keep them in your prayers.

According to California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), in 2007, there were three fatalities and 32 injuries involving car accidents in Adelanto. In San Bernardino County, 308 deaths and 9,920 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in 2007. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that at least 10,000 fatal traffic accidents in the United States each year involve rollover crashes.

William Finke, an 82-year-old passenger in a 2000 Crown Victoria, was seriously injured in a rollover collision in Dixon, California, on December 1, 2008. According to a news article in The Vacaville Reporter, the 12/1/08 rollover crash occurred on Highway 113 about a half mile south of Midway Road. The Ford’s driver, 80-year-old Beatrice Finke who was northbound on the highway, lost control of the 2000 Crown Victoria, crossed the southbound lane and rolled twice coming to rest in a dry canal.

William Finke was trapped in the vehicle for about 15 minutes until fire crews freed him from the wreckage. The driver, Betty Finke, was treated and released at an area hospital for minor injuries.

This was no doubt a close call for this elderly couple. I’m glad that they survived this horrific rollover accident and I wish them both the very best for a complete recovery.

A 23-year-old La Verne man who died in a vehicle rollover accident on Highway 18 on November 22, 2008, has been identified as Timothy Richard Dewhurst, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reports. Dewhurst, a passenger, was ejected from the 2003 Subaru station wagon when it rolled over near the westbound side of Highway 18 near Orchard Drive. He suffered severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

My heart goes out to the family of Timothy Richard Dewhurst, who died in this tragic rollover accident. Please keep his family in your prayers.

Rollover accidents are among the most common and most catastrophic types of crashes that occur on our roadways today. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 10,000 people are killed and more than 24,000 people suffer catastrophic injuries in rollover crashes every year in the United States.
