Two Women Killed in Los Angeles Pedestrian Accident

By

Two female pedestrians were killed and two others were critically injured when a silver Mustang GT struck a streetlight and fire hydrant in Echo Park. According to a KTLA news report, the deadly crash occurred the morning of November 20, 2016 in the 1000 block of Rosemont Avenue when 46-year-old Bryan Gin lost control of his car and ran into three women waiting at a bus stop on Sunset Boulevard. The deceased were identified as two women, 81 and 78. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Critical Injuries Reported

The third female pedestrian struck by the car was described by police as a 51-year-old woman. She had to be rescued from under the Mustang and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. She suffered two broken legs, a broken hip and a laceration on her back, but is said to be in stable condition.

The male driver who had to be extricated from the car was also transported to the hospital in critical condition. LAPD officials who saw the accident said one of the women was catapulted about 25 feet across the street by the force of the impact. Neither alcohol nor drugs seem to be a factor, officials said. The incident is still under investigation.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family members and friends of the two deceased victims. We also wish the severely injured woman the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

What Caused This Crash?

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with the pedestrians at the bus stop. There are still several unanswered questions here. Was the driver of the vehicle distracted or inattentive at the time? Did a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction play a part in the accident? Did the driver suffer a medical episode? We trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Fault and Liability

In such cases, the at-fault drivers can be held accountable for the injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured victims can seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress. Families of deceased victims can seek compensation by filing a wrongful death claim. An experienced Los Angeles pedestrian accident attorney can help victims and their families better understand their legal rights and options.
