Two People Killed in Riverside Hit-And-Run Car Accident

By

Carlos Castro, 52 and Laurie Castro, 50, were killed in a Riverside car accident involving a hit-and-run driver. According to a news report in My Valley News, the fatal hit-and-run car accident occurred on Glen Oaks Road in Temecula the night of May 6, 2011. Carlos Castro was driving a sedan when a vehicle collided head-on with his vehicle. Both Carlos and his passenger, Laurie Castro, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Officials are still looking for the driver of the other vehicle who fled the scene. Authorities are searching for a Latino man wearing a white and orange striped shirt with white tennis shoes.

My deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Carlos and Laurie Castro following this tragic car accident. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this fatal hit-and-run car accident.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), five people were killed and 384 were injured in Temecula car accidents. During that same year, there were 220 fatalities and 8,561 injuries reported due to Riverside County car accidents.

Leaving the Scene of an Accident

It is illegal as well as morally reprehensible to flee the scene of an injury car accident without offering help to the victim. In this case, two people were critically injured and the other driver left them on the roadway, and did not even stop to seek medical assistance for them. In my opinion the actions of this hit-and-run driver were appalling and just inexcusable. California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”

Liability Issues

The family of a victim killed in a hit-and-run accident would be well-advised to contact an experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer, who will stay on top of the official investigation and make sure that the negligent parties are held liable. A knowledgeable car accident attorney will also be able to advise victims’ families about how their own car insurance policy applies to an incident where the at-fault driver is never identified or where the at-fault motorist is uninsured or underinsured.
