By

A 13-year-old was fatally injured in a serious car accident in Oxnard, which involved two vehicles.

According to a KTLA news report, the fatal crash occurred the afternoon of July 13 at the intersection of Rose Avenue and Gonzales Road. Officers arrived at the scene to find that two vehicles – a 1999 Honda Civic and a white Dodge Ram 200 truck – had collided at the intersection.

Ongoing Investigation

Three people in the Honda were injured and transported to local hospitals. The 13-year-old, who was one of those people, died from his injuries. The two other occupants of the Honda did not suffer life-threatening injuries. The two occupants of the Dodge were not injured, officials said.

Based on preliminary reports, the Dodge was traveling south on Rose Avenue and the Honda was going north on the same street before making a left turn onto westbound Gonzales Road. No arrests or citations were reported. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Oxnard police at 805-385-7750.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of the deceased victim for their tragic loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Causes and Compensation Issues

Based on this news report, it appears that the Honda was making a left turn when it was struck by the oncoming Dodge. There are a number of unanswered questions here. Did one of the drivers fail to yield the right of way? Was the Dodge traveling at a high rate of speed? Did alcohol or drugs play a part in this collision? We trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely who or what caused this collision.

In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, families may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation for damages including medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income, pain and suffering, and loss of love, care and companionship. Injured victims can seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

It is important that car accident victims or families that have lost loved ones contact an experienced Ventura County car accident lawyer who will stay on top of the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
