Six People Hospitalized After Car Accident in Mission Viejo

By

A car accident in Mission Viejo involving multiple vehicles has left six people, including two children, injured. According to a news report in Patch.com, a pickup truck lost control at a busy Mission Viejo street intersection and collided with multiple vehicles. A dashcam video shows the pickup truck careening through the intersection of Alicia Parkway and Jeronimo Road and colliding with at least three vehicles before coming to a stop head-on with another vehicle.

Multi-Vehicle Crash

Six people were injured of which five were listed as trauma patients, including two children. A witness to the crash posted the dashcam video. The moment of impact sent one white SUV backward into another vehicle as shrapnel from the collision flew in the air. One driver wrote on Youtube that the truck first collided with the divider, knocked down a tree and then struck the side curb before hitting the cars.

An Orange County Sheriff’s Department officer viewed the entire collision and was on scene within seconds. The dashcam video shows the truck barreling through the intersection from right to left ending in the left-hand turn lane on Jeronimo from Alicia Parkway. Officials don’t believe alcohol or drugs played a part, but suspect that the driver may have had a medical emergency.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this car accident. We wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Causes and Compensation Issues

A study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of crashes that occurred between 2005 and 2007 showed that older drivers are more prone to crashes involving medical emergencies. The study also showed that 84% of the drivers in crashes caused by medical emergencies experienced conditions such as seizures, blackouts or diabetic reactions prior to the crashes. Also, most of the drivers involved in the crashes were aware of their medical condition that led to the crashes.

We trust officials are still looking into the potential causes of this horrific crash. In such cases, the at-fault drivers can be held liable for the injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured victims can seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitative treatment, pain and suffering and emotional distress. An experienced Orange County car accident lawyer can help injured victims and their families seek maximum compensation for their losses.
