A family of six riding in a minivan was injured in a car accident, which officials say, was caused by a driver who was fleeing a road rage incident. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the first crash occurred when a man drove an SUV into another car the afternoon of July 10, 2017 at the intersection of Bolsa Chica Road and Warner Avenue. After that collision, the man drove the SUV east on Warner, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a minivan that was leaving a parking lot near Warner and Springdale Street.

The SUV’s driver had to be extricated from his vehicle and was hospitalized for injuries. All six people in the minivan were transported to area hospitals for treatment of injuries. At least two of the seven who were injured were sent to local trauma centers, which suggests they may have suffered more serious or critical injuries. No arrests or citations were reported. Eduardo Gutierrez, 55, was killed in an auto accident the afternoon of July 8, 2017 after a passing tow truck struck him as he was changing a tire on his vehicle. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Gutierrez was stopped off the westbound 10 at the exit to the 210 in Redlands when he and his vehicle were hit by the tow truck. Gutierrez was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward. No citations or arrests were reported pending an official investigation. Continue reading →

A police officer suffered injuries after officials say a suspected drunk driver ran a red light in Costa Mesa and struck the officer’s patrol vehicle. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, two officers were traveling westbound on Del Mar Avenue at Newport Boulevard in a marked police car the night of July 3, 2017. That’s when a man driving a Chevy Suburban northbound on Newport Boulevard drove through a red light and broadsided the police car.

One of the officers suffered a non-life-threatening shoulder injury. The driver, 66-year-old Leslie Lorrimer of Mission Viejo, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of felony DUI. The investigation into this case is still ongoing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the police officer who was injured in this suspected DUI collision. We wish him the very best for a quick and full recovery.

Two men died and three others suffered serious injuries in an Irvine car accident on July 1 near UC Irvine. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Harvard Avenue and Michelson Drive. Irvine police and Orange County Fire Authority officials who responded to the collision found a 2015 Infiniti Q50 on fire and put out the blaze. A male driver was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Two loose pit bulls killed a cat, chased a woman and bit a man the morning of June 23, 2017. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, several eyewitnesses contacted police to report that two dogs had killed a cat in the 3100 block of South Lowell Street. A man was injured in a Costa Mesa pedestrian accident, which officials said, involved a suspected drunk driver who left the scene of the crash. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the incident occurred early morning on June 18 at the corner of West 19th Street and Newport Boulevard. The driver did not stop or remain at the scene of the accident.

A witness followed the suspect’s vehicle to Dyer Road at the 55 Freeway where California Highway Patrol officials stopped and arrested the suspect, 25-year-old Andrew Jacob Luevano, on suspicion of felony DUI and hit and run causing injuries.
