Orange County Man Killed in Car Accident

By

Xai Lor, 22, of Lake Forest, was fatally injured in a Riverside car accident after his car struck a pole. According to a news report in The Press-Enterprise, the fatal collision occurred early morning on May 29, 2011 in the 1300 block of Blaine Street, close to the Interstate 215. Riverside Coroner’s officials say Lor crashed his car into a pole in the parking lot of a service station. Lor was pronounced dead at the scene.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Xai Lor for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep this grieving family in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 19 deaths and 1,618 injuries involving car accidents in Riverside. In Riverside County as a whole, 220 people died and 8,561 were injured due to car accidents during the same year.

Possible Accident Causes

Based on this news report, it is not quite clear how or why this fatal car accident occurred. At the moment, there are more questions here than answers. Was there an auto defect or mechanical malfunction in Xai Lor’s vehicle, which may have caused him to lose control? Was there an unsafe roadway condition that led to this accident? Did the location and placement of the pole present a pre-existing dangerous condition, and did it contribute to this terrible accident? Were any other vehicles involved in this collision? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Fault and Liability

If this accident was caused by a vehicle defect, then, the auto maker can be held liable for Lor’s wrongful death. In cases where negligence or wrongdoing is involved, the family of a deceased car accident victim can file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income, loss of companionship and other related damages.

In such cases, the victim’s family would be well-advised to contact an experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. A skilled car accident lawyer will also be able to determine whether a dangerous condition caused the incident. If that was the case, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway can also be held liable. Under California Government Code Section 911.2, any personal injury or wrongful death claim must be properly filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.
