Nine Injured in Los Angeles Car Crash

By

Nine people were injured in a Los Angeles car crash involving two vehicles. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the injury crash occurred the night of August 28, 2013 at the intersection of Manchester Avenue and Central Avenue in South Los Angeles.

Four of the injured parties were treated at the scene and released. Five others were transported to a local hospital, including one person who was reported to have been in grave condition. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was injured in this two-car collision. I wish them the very best for a speedy and full recovery.

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2010 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 219 fatalities and 24,561 injuries reported as a result of Los Angeles car accidents. Countywide, 530 people died and 50,153 were injured due to car crashes during the same year.

What Caused This Crash?

Based on this news report, it appears that the collision occurred at an intersection that is monitored by traffic lights. There are still several unanswered questions here. Did one of the drivers run a red light? Was this the result of an unsafe left turn? Were alcohol or drugs involved? Was one of the drivers distracted or fatigued?

Laws and Liability Issues

California Vehicle Code section 21453 (a) states: “A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”

In such cases, the at-fault drivers can be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. Injured victims can seek compensation to cover damages including medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation and pain and suffering. Injured victims would also be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.
