A family’s routine journey turned tragic on a Texas highway near Fort Worth. Six members of a family, including two children, were killed in a devastating head-on collision with another vehicle as they were driving home from a family trip.
The Incident: A Head-on Car Accident Ends in Tragedy
Rushil Barri, 28, was driving several of his family members back from a visit to the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in a Honda Odyssey minivan at the time of the accident. But while they were driving from Glen Rose back to their home in Irving, their vehicle was struck by an oncoming truck.
A Chevrolet pickup truck had moved into the northbound lane of the U.S. 67, traveling the wrong way along the highway. The Chevrolet, which was being driven by a 17-year-old male and had another 17-year-old in the passenger seat, crashed head-on into the Honda.
Victims of the Crash
At the time of the impact, the passengers in the Odyssey minivan included Rushil Barri’s cousin, his cousin’s wife, the two children, and their in-laws, who were all visiting from their homes in Alpharetta, Georgia. The crash claimed the lives of Barri and five of the passengers, including the two children. The deceased children were identified as Krithik Potabathula, 10, and Nishidha Potabathula, 9.
Only one of the passengers survived, identified by officials as a 43-year-old man. The survivor sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital.
Both of the teenage occupants in the Chevrolet pickup truck also sustained critical injuries and were taken to a local hospital.
