Four Suffer Major Injuries in West Covina Car Accident

By

Four people suffered significant injuries in a car accident in West Covina that involved three vehicles.

According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the crash was reported on the night of Dec. 31 on the westbound freeway east of Holt Avenue.

California Highway Patrol officials said a 25-year-old man driving a 2020 Kia Optima rear-ended a 2007 Ford Expedition causing the SUV to lose control and hit the center divider wall.

Ongoing Investigation

The Optima in turn spun into traffic lanes and collided with a 2022 Toyota Highlander. The driver of the Optima and his two occupants, a 26-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, suffered major injuries and were transported to an area hospital. A male passenger in the Highlander also suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Three occupants of the Highlander suffered non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. It is not clear if the driver of the Optima might be facing any charges. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact CHP’s Baldwin Park office at 626-338-1164.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all injured victims of this crash. We wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Causes and Compensation Issues

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the Kia Optima rear-ended the Ford SUV and triggered this crash that resulted in multiple injuries. There are a number of unanswered questions here. What caused the driver of the Kia to rear-end the SUV? Was the driver under the influence, speeding, distracted or fatigued while driving, or following the SUV too closely? We trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine what occurred here and why.

Rear-end collisions have the potential to result in injuries ranging from broken bones and whiplash to traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord trauma. In such cases, negligent drivers can be held liable for the injuries and damages caused.

Victims can seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, permanent injuries, disabilities, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
