Four Injured in Huntington Beach Car Accident

By

Four people were injured in a Huntington Beach car accident, which officials say, involved a Chevy Silverado and a Chevy Suburban, the morning of October 6, 2011. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the car crash occurred at the intersection of Heil Avenue and Edwards Street. The driver of the Silverado pickup truck, traveling eastbound on Heil, attempted a left turn when the two vehicles collided. Three occupants of the Suburban and the driver of the Silverado were hospitalized following the crash. The extent of their injuries is not known. An investigation is ongoing.

My thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this Orange County accident. I wish them all the very best for a complete and speedy recovery.

Orange County Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 13 people were killed and 993 were injured in Huntington Beach car accidents. During that same year, there were 141 fatalities and 13,373 injuries reported involving Orange County car accidents.

What Caused This Injury Accident?

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the pickup was making a left turn when the collision occurred. It is unclear who had the right-of-way here and if the driver of the Silverado made an unsafe left turn. California Vehicle Code Section 21801 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to the approaching vehicles until the left turn or U-turn can be made with reasonable safety.”

Fault and Liability

If the driver of the Silverado is determined to have been at fault, then, he or she can be held liable for the resulting injuries and damages. Injured victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, lost wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. Victims would be well-advised to contact an experienced Huntington Beach personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all facets of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable.
