Gabriel Barragan Abundio, 86, was killed in a hit-and-run car accident in Duarte after he was struck while crossing a residential street. According to a report in The Pasadena Star-News, the elderly man was walking across the 18000 block of Buena Vista Road near Duarte Road the evening of December 1, 2010 when he was hit by a car. The driver of the car fled the scene without stopping. Abundio sustained fatal head injuries. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Temple Station at 626-285-7171.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Gabriel Barragan Abundio for their untimely and heartbreaking loss. Apparently, he was a well-respected member of his community and a much-loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His children say he was walking home after a Christmas shopping trip to an Arcadia mall. Tragic! Please keep this grieving family in your thoughts and prayers.

Leaving the Scene of a Car Accident
Based on this news report, the driver struck Abundio and then took off without even stopping to see if someone was hurt or needed help. Abundio’s children have publicly asked the hit-and-run driver to turn himself or herself in. I certainly hope the individual who committed this heartless act is quickly apprehended and brought to justice.
