Brea Car Accident Causes Major Injuries

By

Three people were injured in a Brea car acident the morning of April 11, 2012. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the major injury collision occurred on Brea Canyon Road near Tonner Canyon Road. California Highway Patrol officials say the driver of a Chevy S10 pickup truck was traveling north on Brea Canyon when she hit the right shoulder guardrail. The pickup’s driver lost control as she re-entered traffic lanes, sideswiping a southbound Honda sedan and then colliding head-on into a Honda Civic. The driver of the Chevy and the male driver of the Honda Civic had to be extricated from the wreckage and transported to area hospitals. A female passenger in the pickup was also hospitalized. An investigation is ongoing.

My heart goes out to the injured victims of this car crash. I wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Car Accident Statistics

According to CHP’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), one person was killed and 186 were injured as a result of Brea car accidents. During the same year, 141 fatalities and 13,373 injuries were reported as a result of Orange County car accidents.

What Caused this Crash?

Based on this news report, the driver of the Chevy pickup truck may have lost control of her vehicle on the slick roadway. I trust officials are looking into whether she lost control because she was exceeding the speed limit given the wet conditions. California Vehicle Code Section 22350 (Basic Speed Law) states: “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic and on surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.”

Liability Issues

In this particular case, if the driver of the Chevy pickup truck is determined to have been at fault for speeding or driving recklessly, she could be held liable for the injuries caused to the other driver as well as her own passenger. In such cases, injured victims can seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. Victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer, who will analyze all facets of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to car accident victims and their families.
