Injuries and Compensation

An accident that involves a bicycle and another vehicle can cause serious injuries to the bicyclist. When a bicyclist falls to the ground, he or she may suffer bone fractures, spinal cord trauma and injuries to the head or brain. Blunt force trauma to certain areas of the body can be catastrophic or even fatal.

Other common injuries in bicycle accidents include facial injuries, nerve damage, ruptured discs and neck and back injuries. If a vehicle strikes a bicyclist and runs over the person, it could lead to broken bones, crush injuries, internal organ damage and even death. A helmet could significantly prevent the risk of head injuries. However, it cannot prevent injuries to other parts of the body. While injuries such as broken bones are not fatal and may not be considered catastrophic, they could still leave victims with long-term health issues and require extensive rehabilitation and therapy to heal.

In such cases, bicycle accident victims may be able to seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, permanent injuries, disabilities, pain and suffering and emotional distress. An experienced California bicycle accident attorney will be able to advise injured victims in such cases regarding their legal rights and options.
