Bicyclist Injured in Orange County Hit-And-Run Car Accident

By

Sabino Ramirez, 46, was injured in an Orange County auto accident involving a hit-and-run driver, the night of July 11, 2011. According to a City News Service report, the hit-and-run crash occurred near the Euclid Street off ramp of the 91 Freeway in Fullerton. Ramirez was riding his bicycle when a burgundy or purple Jeep or Toyota SUV struck him. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Officials are looking for the hit-and-run suspect. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact California Highway Patrol’s Westminster Station at 714-892-4426.

My thoughts and prayers are with Sabino Ramirez following this hit-and-run car accident. I’m relieved to hear he did not suffer critical injuries. I wish this victim the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Bicycle Accident Statistics

According to CHP’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), one person was killed and 69 were injured in Fullerton bicycle accidents. During that same year, Orange County bike accidents claimed 10 lives and injured 1,087 people.

Hit-And-Run Accidents

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the SUV not only struck the bicyclist and injured him, but also left the scene of the crash without even stopping to check on the victim. Under California law, drivers are required to stop immediately and remain at the scene of an injury accident until authorities arrive. Most importantly, they are required to obtain assistance for the injured victims of such collisions. However, in this case, the driver chose to do none of the above and instead, drove away. Despicable!

Under California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a): “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”

The authorities are searching for the driver and the purple Jeep or Toyota SUV involved in this crash. If you have any information about this accident, please visit our web site hitandrunreward.com.
