Driver Injured in Costa Mesa Car Accident

A driver was injured in a Costa Mesa car accident after three vehicles collided and an SUV overturned, the morning of April 4, 2012. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the rollover accident occurred at the intersection of South Coast Drive and Harbor Boulevard. Officials have not released any information regarding how the collision occurred. The male driver of the Toyota Rav4 SUV sustained moderate injuries and had to be rescued from his overturned vehicle.

My thoughts and prayers are with the driver of the SUV injured in this three-car crash. I wish him the very best for a complete and quick recovery.

Orange County Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), three fatalities and 848 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in the city of Costa Mesa. During the same year, 141 people were killed and 13,373 were injured as a result of Orange County car accidents.

What Caused This Collision?

Based on this news report, it is not yet clear what caused the three vehicles to collide at the intersection. I trust investigators are looking for the answer to a number of questions. The intersection where this three-car crash occurred is a large and busy one, and is monitored by traffic lights. Did one of the motorists run the red light at the intersection? Did one of the drivers fail to yield the right-of-way? Was speed a factor in the accident? Did one of the drivers cause a rear-end collision? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine what occurred here and why.

Laws and Liability Issues

According to California Vehicle Code Section 21800 (a): “The driver of a vehicle approaching an intersection shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from a different highway.”

Victims of multiple vehicle accidents would be well advised to speak with an experienced Costa Mesa personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation. If negligence or wrongdoing was a contributing factor in the crash, then, financial compensation may be available for the victim’s medical bills, lost wages, the cost of rehabilitation services and other related damages. The best personal injury law firms will always offer a free consultation and comprehensive case evaluation to injured victims and their families.
