Los Angeles Car Accident Kills Man

By

A 49-year-old man was killed in a Los Angeles car accident the afternoon of September 22, 2009, CBS News reports. The fatal car accident occurred in the 5900 block of Fallbrook Avenue in Woodland Hills when a woman driving south on Fallbrook swerved into oncoming traffic, striking a car head-on. The man in the other car died. The woman and her passenger were hospitalized with injuries, but were believed to be in stable condition. Occupants of two other cars that were involved, also complained of injuries, but they were minor, officials said.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of this man for their tragic and shocking loss. I offer my sincere condolences to the victim’s family. Please keep them in your prayers. I also hope the other injured victims recover quickly and completely.

Los Angeles Car Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), 260 deaths and 27,110 injuries involving car accidents occurred in the city of Los Angeles. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 712 deaths and 56,475 injuries were reported in 2007 as a result of car accidents.

Based on this news report, it appears that the female driver who swerved out of her lane and crashed may have been at fault for this fatal California car accident. Still, there are many questions here. What caused the woman to swerve out of traffic lanes and cause the head-on crash? Was she driving under the influence? Was she distracted in some way? Was there a mechanical malfunction or vehicle defect that caused her to lose control? Was there another vehicle that forced the woman out of her lane? These are some of the questions that need to be answered in order to determine whether there was negligence involved in this case. In such cases if negligence or wrongdoing is involved, families of deceased victims could file wrongful death claims seeking compensation to cover medical/funeral expenses, loss of earnings, loss of love and companionship and other related damages.

Car accident cases, especially those that involve multiple vehicles and victims can be extremely complicated to investigate. There is usually more than one insurance carrier, adjuster or attorney to deal with. Injured victims or families of deceased victims would be well-advised to seek the counsel of an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer who has a successful track record with car accident cases. The best personal injury lawyers will always offer a free initial consultation to injured victims and their families.

It can be almost guaranteed that the woman was driving a huge SUV, talking or texting on her phone when she hit the innocent driver.

I live close to the accident site in Woodland Hills, and I’ve spoken to eye witnesses. Apparently, according to my sources, you’re right on both counts. She was driving a Lincoln Navigator and swerved–while fiddling with her cell phone–to avoid a car that was slow or stopped in front of her. Let me hasten to add that I don’t have any first hand knowledge of this crash, but that’s what I was told.
