Motorcycle Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2013 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), one fatality and 63 injuries were reported as a result of motorcycle accidents in the city of Fullerton. In Orange County as a whole, 30 people died and 989 were injured as a result of motorcycle accidents during the same year.

What Caused This Fatal Crash?

Based on this news report, it appears that the SUV versus motorcycle collision occurred at a street intersection, which is monitored by traffic lights. There are still a number of questions here. What caused the collision? Who was at fault? Did the collision occur as the SUV was making a left turn at the intersection? Did the driver of the SUV fail to yield the right of way to the motorcyclist? At what speed were the vehicles traveling? Did distracted or inattentive driving cause or contribute to this fatal collision? We trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine what occurred here and why.

Fault and Liability

If the driver of the SUV is determined to have been at fault, he or she can be held liable for the victim’s wrongful death. In cases where negligence is involved, families of deceased accident victims can file a wrongful death claim seeking compensation for damages including medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income and loss of love and companionship. An experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer will be able to stay on top of the official investigation and advise injured victims or families regarding their legal rights and options.
