A 72-year-old man who was driving the wrong way on the 241 Toll Road in Orange caused a multi-car crash that led to his death and injured three others. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the incident occurred on the night of Aug. 6. The man was driving a Toyota Camry north in the southbound lanes near East Santiago Canyon Road when it struck a Ford F-150 pickup truck who tried to get out of the car’s way, California Highway Patrol officials said. The truck then struck a Chevy Camaro.
Fatality and Injuries
The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The 19-year-old man driving the pickup truck suffered major injuries and transported to an area hospital. Two passengers in the truck, an 18-year-old man and 19-year-old woman, were also injured and hospitalized. The driver and passenger of the Camaro were uninjured. Investigators have not ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in this crash, CHP said.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected in this horrific crash. We wish the injured victims the very best for a quick and full recovery.
Causes and Compensation Issues
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the Toyota Camry, only identified as a man from Gardena, was driving the wrong way on the toll road when he crashed into the pickup truck, which appears like he couldn’t get out of the way in time to avoid the collision. We trust officials are looking into whether alcohol, drugs, distracted or fatigued driving may have been factors in this crash.
In such cases, the at-fault party or their estate could be held liable for injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured victims may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit seeking compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, permanent injuries, pain and suffering and emotional distress. The value or worth of a car accident claim will usually depend on the nature and extent of the injuries involved.
Injured victims in such cases would be well advised to contact an experienced Orange County car accident lawyer who will remain on the top of the investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
