Violent South Los Angeles Car Accident Leaves One Dead and Two Children Injured

By

One person died and two children were hospitalized with critical injuries after a violent car accident in South Los Angeles that involved two vehicles. According to an ABC7 news report, the crash occurred the night of Nov. 29 at the intersection of Colden and McKinley avenues.

Police said one car ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle with the female driver and two children. Police said the children, ages 10 and 12, underwent surgeries for their injuries. The adult victim, who police say was related to the children, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other car was uninjured and remained at the scene. Police don’t believe that alcohol or drugs were factors.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of the deceased victim. Our thoughts and prayers are with the children who are still in critical condition. We wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Possible Stop Sign Violation

Based on this news report, it appears that one of the vehicles ran a stop sign and hit the vehicle in which the victims were traveling in. California law requires drivers to come to a complete stop at a stop sign and then proceed with caution.

According to California Vehicle Code section 21802 (a): “The driver of any vehicle approaching a stop sign at the entrance to, or within, an intersection shall stop as required by Section 22450. The driver shall then yield the right-of-way to any vehicles which have approached from another highway, or which are approaching so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to those vehicles until he or she can proceed with reasonable safety.”

Justice for Victims

In such cases, at-fault drivers can be held liable for the injuries, damages and losses they have caused. Injured victims can seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress. Families that have lost a loved one may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation as well.

Victims or families in such incidences would also be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles car accident lawyer who will be able to fight for their rights and help ensure that they receive maximum compensation for their losses.
