Three people have been hospitalized with serious injuries in a car accident in Glenn County, which officials say involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The Orland Press Register, the DUI accident occurred on Interstate 5 in Glenn County, the early morning of June 12, 2011. Jude Tenbear, 39, was reportedly travelling about 100 mph when she crashed her 2006 Pontiac into the back of a 1991 Toyota driven by 40-year-old Miguel Chacon. Chacon, and two other occupants in the Toyota, 28-year-old Wendy Vasquez and 64-year-old Juan Ramires, suffered severe injuries. The injuries suffered in this DUI crash included serious lacerations and a broken back. Tenbear was treated for minor injuries and then arrested on charges of felony suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), six people were killed and 16 were injured in alcohol-related crashes in the unincorporated areas of Glenn County. During that same year, 6 fatalities and 20 injuries occurred involving Glenn County DUI collisions.

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the Pontiac was not only violating California Vehicle Code Section 22350 (Basic Speed Law) by speeding, but she was also reportedly under the influence of alcohol. According to California Vehicle Code Section 23152 (a): “It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle.”
