Newport Beach police said four vehicles were involved in the crash.

Officials said a Range Rover and a Ferrari were traveling at high speeds west on Pacific Coast Highway and struck two other cars on the road. The driver of the Range Rover stayed at the scene but, the driver of the Ferrari did not stop and kept going. She was tracked down by police and arrested. She was charged with evading peace officers and hit-and-run with property damage. Three people from the other vehicles were transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Police are still investigating the crash.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those who were injured in this Newport Beach car accident. We wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Laws and Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it appears that excessive speed may have been a factor in this crash. California Vehicle Code Section 22350 (Basic Speed Law) states: “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic and on surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.”

In such cases, the at-fault driver or drivers can be held liable for the injuries, damages and losses caused to victims. Injured victims can seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress.

Victims who have been injured in a car accident would be well advised to file a police report and obtain and copy of it; try to gather as much evidence from the scene as possible including cell phone photos, videos and contact information for eyewitnesses; secure prompt medical attention treatment and care; and contact an experienced Newport Beach car accident lawyer who will remain on their side, fight for their rights and obtain maximum compensation for their losses.
