South Los Angeles Hit and Run Injured Pedestrian Fixing Bicycle

By

LAPD officials are asking for the public’s help in identifying a hit-and-run driver who severely injured a person who was fixing a bicycle in South Los Angeles. According to a KTLA news report, the crash was reported about noon Jan. 4 near the intersection of Adams Boulevard and Nevin Avenue in the Central Alameda neighborhood. LAPD officials said the driver had run over the pedestrian who was repairing a bicycle on the roadway.

Surveillance Video Captures Incident

Surveillance video released Jan. 11 by the police shows that the truck’s driver briefly stopped after the impact but continued without helping the victim. A person appears to have witnessed the crash and at least two other vehicles were seen in the area when this incident occurred, the video shows.

The victim was transported to an area hospital with severe injuries. The vehicle involved is described as a white Chevrolet work truck equipped with an aftermarket glass carrier rack. Officials are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the hit-and-run driver’s arrest and conviction. Witnesses are urged to contact LAPD at 213-833-3713.

Our thoughts and prayers are with this severely injured hit-and-run victim. We wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Laws and Liability Issues

Based on this news report and information contained in the surveillance video that officials released, the truck driver knew that he had struck the individual because he stopped after the impact. California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) requires motorists to stop and remain at the scene of an injury or fatal crash. The law also requires drivers to exchange pertinent information with other parties involved and most importantly, render aid to injured victims.

It is a fact that those who are injured in hit-and-run collisions face significant challenges including mounting medical bills while enduring the trauma of not knowing who caused their injuries. In such cases, it would be in victims’ best interests to retain the services of an experienced Los Angeles hit and run lawyer who will stay on top of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also be able to advise victims about how their own auto insurance policy might apply to a hit and run crash or an incident where the at-fault driver is uninsured or underinsured.
