Police Looking for Hit and Run Driver in Fatal Sun Valley Crash

By

LAPD officials are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect involved in a hit-and-run crash in Sun Valley that left a 58-year-old Glendale man fatally injured. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the crash occurred the morning of Feb. 6 at the intersection of Coldwater Canyon and Roscoe boulevards. Officials say a Chevrolet Silverado pickup was going north on Coldwater Canyon when it ran a red light at Roscoe and collided with the driver’s side of an older model Morris Minor that was traveling west on Roscoe.

Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

The driver of the Morris Minor was declared dead at the scene. Police said the driver of the pickup abandoned the truck at the scene. Images released by LAPD show a man in a red, long-sleeved shirt, blue baseball cap and a blue facemask carrying what appears to be a car seat away from the truck.

Surveillance video also showed the hit-and-run driver getting into a second vehicle, a two-door silver Hyundai Tiburon, which had been following the truck just before it crashed. The Tiburon was also later found abandoned a mile away from the scene of the crash. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division at 818-644-8036.

Laws and Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the pickup truck not only ran a red light and crashed into the Morris Minor, but also left the victim fatally injured and fled the scene in another vehicle. California law requires drivers to come to a full stop for a red light. California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a) also requires motorists to stop at the scene of an injury or fatal crash, exchange information with other parties and most importantly, to render aid to injured victims.

Families that have lost loved ones in hit-and-run collisions are often left not just with the grief and anger in the aftermath of such a traumatic event, but also the unforeseen expenses that come in the form of medical and/or funeral expenses and loss of income. If you have lost a loved one in a hit-and-run crash, it is important to understand that you have legal rights and ways to seek compensation for your tremendous losses. An experienced Los Angeles hit and run lawyer will be able to provide you with more information about pursuing your legal rights.
