Jim Harmon, 58, and his 57-year-old wife, Debbie Harmon, were killed in a California car accident the morning of September 19, 2009 in the Bakersfield area. According to an ABC news report, 74-year-old Hazel Halloran was driving a Buick north on Sierra Way in Kernville, California, when she lost control of her car and crashed head-on into the Harley Davidson motorcycle that Jim and Debbie Harmon were riding. The couple was thrown off the motorcycle. Both sustained fatal injuries.

San Diego Fatal Car Accident Involves Overturned Big Rig
Gustavo Gracia, 33, was killed in a California car accident the morning of September 17, 2009, after a big rig flipped over and crushed his car on the 5 Freeway in Oceanside, California. According to a news report in the San Diego Union Tribune, Gracia was in a Lexus sedan on the 5 Freeway’s transition to Route 78 when the truck rolled on its left side while the driver was negotiating a turn and hit the sedan. Gracia suffered major head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, 32-year-old Jerry Jimerson, sustained minor injuries. California Highway Patrol officials are looking into why the big rig, a 1996 Freightliner pulling a 32-foot cargo container, tipped over. Officials say they will perform a thorough inspection of the truck.

Los Angeles Hit-and-Run Car Accident Leaves Baby Dead
Kaylee Alvarez, a 1-year-old girl, was killed and her 2-year-old brother Oscar, injured, in a car accident in Los Angeles after a suspected drunk driver slammed into a toy wagon the two children were on. The parents, Alex and Yesenia Alvarez, were pulling the wagon through a crosswalk in Long Beach, California. According to the Long Beach Press Telegram, the fatal accident occurred at the corner of 10th Street and Redondo Avenue the night of September 11, 2009 when the driver, 33-year-old Neely Lejon Dinkins, struck the wagon with his Dodge Durango SUV and then dragged the children along with the wagon unmindful of pleas from several onlookers to stop.

San Francisco Area DUI Car Accident Kills Woman
Kathleen L. O’Daniel, 54, was killed in a San Francisco car accident the afternoon of September 14, 2009 after being struck by a suspected drunk driver. According to a CBS news report, 55-year-old Judy Shafer was driving a 2002 Jeep Liberty north on Llano Road in Santa Rosa when it crossed the double-yellow line and crashed head-on with a 1998 Honda Civic driven by O’Daniel, who died at the scene. O’Daniel’s 15-year-old daughter suffered broken bones and internal injuries and was taken to an area hospital. Shafer was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

Yesenia Gonzalez, 31, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident early morning September 13, 2009 after she was struck by a car on the 105 Freeway in Downey, California. According to a report in the Whittier Daily News, Gonzalez was hit while walking for unknown reasons, in the traffic lanes of the roadway. Los Angeles Fatal Car Accident Kills Motorcyclist
Randall “Randy” Phillips, a retired police officer, was killed September 12, 2009 in a Los Angeles car accident on the 60 Freeway in Pomona that officials say was caused by a wrong way driver. Phillips was riding his motorcycle west on the 60 and on the connector road to the northbound 71 when he was hit head-on by a car driving the wrong way. Phillips was killed instantly. The driver then fled the scene of the crash. Officials discovered the hit-and-run vehicle abandoned, on a nearby surface street. Los Angeles Car Accident Critically Injures Pedestrian
A man was critically injured in a September 9, 2009 Los Angeles car accident when he was struck by a car while walking on a Long Beach street. According to a news report in The Press Telegram, the victim, believed to be about 20 years old, was walking north on Clark Avenue near Garford Street when a minivan hit him. Long Beach police said the driver of the minivan remained at the scene of the accident and called for help. Police also say the motorist was not under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Seven Injured in Riverside Rollover Car Accident
Seven people were injured in a Riverside car accident on the 10 Freeway near Blythe the afternoon of September 9, 2009, The Desert Sun reports. California Highway Patrol officials say three people suffered major injuries while four sustained minor to moderate injuries. One person was thrown from the vehicle in the car crash that occurred on the westbound 10 Freeway close to Mesa Drive, CHP officials said.
