Worker Killed after 30-Foot Fall at Los Angeles Waste Water Treatment Plant

Edgar Gonzalez, 30, who was working on a construction project at the Hyperion waste water treatment plant sustained fatal job injuries after a 30-foot fall. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the accident occurred at the plant on Vista del Mar, near El Segundo, the afternoon of Aug. 2, 2011. The man had been erecting a wall panel at the plant and was trying to secure the top when he fell.

Investigators from the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, known as Cal/OSHA, are looking into the cause of this tragic accident. The man was not a Hyperion employee, but worked for USS Cal Builders, an Orange County-based general contractor. Hyperion officials say this is the first construction-related fatality at that plant since it was first modernized in the 1950s.

San Bernardino Hit-And-Run Car Accident Causes Injuries

A man was injured in a San Bernardino car accident involving a hit-and-run driver. According to a news report in The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, the hit-and-run car accident occurred near the intersection of Baseline Road and Beryl Street in Rancho Cucamonga, the afternoon of July 29, 2011. The injured pedestrian was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Authorities were able to locate the driver responsible for this collision shortly after the accident. The extent of the victim’s injuries is not known. It is also not clear if the driver will be charged with leaving the scene of the crash.

Fatal Orange County Car Accident

Wesley Davis, 23, was killed in an Anaheim car accident after his car was hit by an SUV, the night of July 29, 2011. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal car crash occurred at the intersection of La Palma and Sequoia avenues. Authorities report that Davis was turning left at the intersection when a Ford Explorer SUV struck his Buick. The Buick was sheared in half by the impact and the Explorer overturned. Davis was killed, while a female passenger in the Buick and the male driver of the Explorer were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Anaheim Hit-and-Run Car Accident Injures Pedestrian

A 45-year-old man suffered critical injuries in an Anaheim car accident after he was struck by a vehicle whose driver left the scene. According to a City News Service report, the major injury collision occurred early morning on July 27, 2011 in the 2100 block of South Harbor Boulevard near Orangewood Avenue. Officials say the pedestrian was walking across the southbound lanes when he was hit by a Toyota pickup truck. The driver did not stop and kept going. Police are asking witnesses to contact them and help with the investigation. Officials say the Toyota pickup likely has front-end damage. Anyone with information is asked to call Anaheim police at 714-765-1860.

San Diego DUI Collision Kills Bicyclist

Arthur John Jacobs, 64, was fatally injured in a San Diego car accident after his bicycle was struck by a suspected drunk driver. According to a 10News report, the fatal bicycle accident occurred the night of July 27, 2011 near the intersection of El Camino Real and Cassia Street in Carlsbad.

Witnesses told officials that the 23-year-old driver, later identified as Julianne Elyse Thomson, crashed into a curb and some bushes and sped away into an apartment parking lot. Jacobs was found lying on the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene. Police found Thomson hiding in the bushes shortly afterward. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI, vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run.

Woman Severely Injured in San Bernardino Dog Attack

Jaqueline Sharp, 46, was seriously injured in a San Bernardino dog bite incident involving two pit bulls. According to KCDZ radio, the dog attack occurred on Balboa in Yucca Valley, the morning of July 25, 2011. Officials say the woman was viciously attacked by the two dogs in a neighbor’s driveway. Other neighbors who witnessed the attack restrained the dogs and contacted the authorities. Sharp was severely injured in the attack and suffered multiple dog bites to her arms. It is unclear from the report who owned the dogs, if they had a history of being dangerous, or what they were doing off-leash.

Orange County Truck Accident Causes Injuries

A U.S. Marine was injured in an Orange County car accident that involved an overturned big rig. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the truck accident occurred on southbound 5 Freeway near Christianitos Road in San Clemente, the morning of July 25, 2011. California Highway Patrol officials say a big rig sideswiped a Honda and fled the scene of the crash. Then, a box truck attempted to avoid the Honda and ended up striking another vehicle, before rolling onto its side. The Marine sustained non-life-threatening injuries in this crash.

DUI Collision in Fullerton Kills Woman

Kelly Pham, 21, of La Mirada, was killed in a Fullerton car accident, which officials say, involved a suspected drunk driver. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the fatal DUI collision occurred when the driver, 23-year-old Justin Drake, was speeding in a 2006 Mazda westbound on Malvern Avenue, near Woods Avenue, the morning of July 24, 2011.

Police say he lost control of the car at a curve and struck a tree and retaining wall. Pham, who sustained critical injuries, was transported to a local hospital where she died. Drake was also injured, but was arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Fullerton police at 714-738-6716.

Woman Killed in Huntington Beach Hit-and-Run Car Accident

A woman in her 20s was killed and another man was injured in a Huntington Beach car accident, which officials say involved a hit-and-run driver. According to a news report in The Orange County register, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred early morning on July 22, 2011 at the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Atlanta Avenue.

Officials say the pedestrians were walking in a lighted crosswalk when they were struck by the driver, who was southbound on Brookhurst. The male suspect fled the scene, but was arrested three hours later in Laguna Beach on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. The woman died at the scene and the male victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Bicyclist Killed in Long Beach Car Accident

Louis Gabor, 67, died this Tuesday as a result of injuries he had suffered in a Long Beach car accident. According to a news report in The Press-Telegram, the fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Bixby Road and Cherry Avenue in Long Beach, the morning of July 6, 2011, when Gabor’s bicycle was struck by a Chevy S-10 pickup truck. Police say the 66-year-old driver of the pickup truck ran a red light and struck Gabor. The bicyclist suffered critical injuries and died from his injuries July 19, 2011. Officials are in the process of determining if the driver of the pickup truck should face vehicular manslaughter charges.
