One Dead, Three Injured in Fullerton Wrong Way Crash

By

One woman was killed and three others were injured in a wrong-way car accident in Fullerton the morning of Jan. 27. According to a KTLA news report, the crash was reported at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Valencia Drive. Police said a Chevy Silverado veered into oncoming traffic as the driver was heading north. The SUV crashed into a Toyota Corolla traveling south.

Fatality and Injuries

The force of the collision caused the Silverado to flip striking a Ford Edge that was also southbound. The Corolla then spun and struck a Nissan Altima. A 21-year-old woman and her 18-year-old passenger were trapped in the Corolla and had to be extricated. Both were transported to an area hospital where the driver succumbed to her injuries.

A 50-year-old man in the Edge and a 36-year-old man in the Silverado were also taken to a hospital with critical injuries. Video from the scene showed significant damage to the vehicles. Police had received reports of the Silverado’s driver traveling erratically before the crash. Investigators are still in the process of determining whether alcohol or drugs were factors. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call police at 714-738-6815. The investigation is ongoing.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of the woman who was killed in this wrong-way crash. Our thoughts and prayers are also with the injured victims and wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Laws and Liability Issues

Based on this news report, the driver of the Silverado was not only driving erratically before the crash but ended up veering into opposing lanes of traffic and triggering a chain-reaction crash that left a woman dead and three others seriously injured. In such cases, the at-fault driver, in addition to potentially facing criminal charges and penalties, can also be held financially responsible for the injuries, damages and losses caused.

Injured victims can seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress. Families that have lost a loved one can seek compensation for losses including medical costs, funeral and burial expenses, lost future income, pain and suffering and loss of love, care and companionship. An experienced Fullerton car accident lawyer will be able to advise injured victims and their families regarding their legal rights and options.
