A bicyclist suffered major injuries in a Sacramento County bicycle accident after he was struck by a pickup truck on the night of April 21.
According to a report in The Sacramento Bee, the major injury collision occurred when two cyclists were riding in the northbound bike lane on Elk Grove Florin Road near Bridalsmith Drive. One of them was struck by a four-door pickup truck, which was also northbound, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Based on a preliminary investigation, CHP officials believe a white work truck, described as a Ford pickup truck with a model year between about 2008 and 2016, struck one of the bicyclists and then fled the scene. The cyclist who was struck was transported to a hospital with significant injuries.
The other cyclist remained at the scene and cooperated with CHP officers. Officials said the suspect vehicle being sought has a missing passenger-side mirror. Anyone with information about this bicycle accident can contact CHP South Sacramento at 916-897-5600.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured bicyclist. We wish him the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.
Justice for Victims
Based on this news report, it appears that both the bicyclist and the pickup truck were going in the same direction when the collision occurred. There are still a number of questions here. Was the driver of the pickup truck under the influence at the time of the crash? Was the driver distracted or inattentive? Was the driver operating the pickup truck in a reckless manner? Was speed a factor in this crash? We trust officials are looking into these and other issues to determine precisely what caused the crash.
In addition, the driver also fled the scene after a significant injury crash without rendering aid to the victim, which is against California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a). In such cases, it is the victim who suffers the physical, emotional, and financial repercussions. Victims are faced with having to recover from painful injuries. They are also forced to deal with mounting medical expenses and other financial burdens such as loss of income.
In such cases, it would be in the best interest of victims and their families to contact an experienced Sacramento bicycle accident lawyer who can stay on top of the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. A knowledgeable lawyer will also help victims explore other avenues of compensation to help pay medical expenses and other costs.
