Man Killed in Inglewood Area Hit and Run Crash

By

A 70-year-old man suffered fatal injuries in a pedestrian accident in the Inglewood area, which officials say involved a hit and run driver.

According to a KTLA news report, the crash occurred on the night of Jan. 27 2022 when the victim was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Manchester and Van Ness avenues. The location where this fatal crash occurred is at the border of Los Angeles and Inglewood. LAPD is investigating the case.

Ongoing Investigation of the Fatal Crash in Inglewood, Near Los Angeles

Officials said a vehicle going east on Manchester made a left turn onto Van Ness and crashed into the victim knocking him onto the roadway. The driver continued north on Van Ness without stopping to help the victim, police said. Firefighter paramedics who arrived at the scene pronounced the victim dead.

Police don’t have a description of the hit-and-run driver but described the vehicle as a dark-colored, early-model truck with tinted windows. A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered to anyone who can provide information leading to the driver’s identity, arrest, and conviction. Anyone with information is asked to contact LAPD at 323-421-2500.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of this victim for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Laws and Liability Issues

In this case, the driver not only failed to yield the right of way to a pedestrian who was walking legally in a marked crosswalk but also left the scene of an injury or fatal crash, which is a felony crime under California law. According to California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a), it is illegal for motorists to leave the scene of an injury or fatal crash without waiting for law enforcement officials to arrive at the scene, exchanging information with other parties, or most importantly, without rendering aid to injured victims. We hope the hit-and-run driver is apprehended and brought to justice.

In such cases, families of deceased victims would be well advised to seek the counsel of an experienced Los Angeles hit-and-run lawyer who will stay abreast of the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also advise victims and families about how their auto insurance policy might apply to a hit-and-run case or in a car accident case where the at-fault party is uninsured or underinsured.
