Miguel Condelle, 30, was killed in a truck accident on Highway 37 near Mare Island in Solano County.

According to a report in The Vacaville Reporter, the fatal incident occurred the morning of Dec. 30 when the driver of a Freightliner big rig was going west on State Route 37 and hit slower-moving traffic.

Fatality and Injuries in Truck Accident

California Highway Patrol officials said the truck driver, later identified as 45-year-old David Jones of Vacaville, swerved to the right and collided with a concrete barrier, and then crashed into a Chevy truck, a Toyota Camry, and a Tesla Model 3. The Freightliner then crashed right through the median and went into the eastbound lanes where it collided with a Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Condelle, the driver of the Dodge pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota Camry, 32-year-old Rogelio Cardenas of Brentwood, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

CHP officials are asking anyone with information o contact their Solano Area Office at 707-639-5600. The investigation is ongoing.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of Miguel Condelle for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. We also wish those who were injured in this crash the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Causes and Compensation Issues

Based on this news report and official statements, it appears that the driver of the big rig may have lost control of the Freightliner because he couldn’t stop in time for traffic that had slowed down on Highway 37. Often, this occurs because truck drivers are not paying attention to the roadway and driving at a speed that is safe given current traffic conditions.

In this case, we trust officials are looking into a number of issues. Was the truck driver fatigued or impaired? Was he distracted or inattentive? Did any other type of negligence cause or contribute to this tragic truck accident? In such cases, the at-fault truck driver and his employer can be held financially responsible for the injuries, damages, and losses.

The family of a deceased victim can file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation for damages such as medical and funeral expenses, lost future income, pain and suffering, and loss of love, care, and companionship.

Victims and families would be well advised to get an experienced California truck accident lawyer on their side as soon as possible so crucial evidence such as data recorders, driving logs, vehicle maintenance logs, etc. can be preserved. A truck accident law firm that has successfully handled similar cases will be able to secure maximum compensation for injured victims and families that have lost loved ones in truck crashes caused by negligence.
