Man Fatally Injured in Chatsworth Motorcycle Accident

By

Austin Daniel Vargas Rodes, 26, of Northridge, was killed in a motorcycle accident after crashing with a vehicle in Chatsworth on March 10. According to the Los Angeles Daily News, the crash occurred at the intersection of Devonshire Street and Mason Avenue. Police say Rodes was trying to make a left turn onto southbound Mason when his vehicle crashed into a Mini Cooper that was headed east on Devonshire.

Wet Roadway a Possible Cause

The rider was tossed to the ground. He suffered serious injuries even though he was wearing a helmet, officials said. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the car was not seriously injured. Police said the roadway was wet and could have been a factor in the crash. Officials do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor. No arrests were made in connection with the collision.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of Austin Daniel Vargas Rodes for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Driving Safely in Rain

Southern California is going through an unexpected rainy spell in March and there have been a number of traffic collisions in the area over the last few days, which officials say, may have been caused by slick roadways and the weather.

Here are a few tips for motorists to safely navigate the rest of this rainy season:

  • Slow down: It is important not just to adhere to the posted speed limit while driving in wet weather, but also to drive considerably slower than you normally would. Wet roadways can slow down your vehicle’s reaction time. Therefore, a reduced speed is imperative in these conditions.
  • Turn on your lights and wipers: California law requires you to turn on your headlights and windshield wipers when it’s raining. Make sure your lights and wipers are in good working condition as they can help you see the road clearly.
  • Maintain a safe distance: Keep a greater distance between your vehicle and the car in front of you. Stopping your vehicle will be more difficult when driving in the rain. Maintain a distance of several car lengths between your car and other vehicles.

If you or a loved one has been involved in a car accident due to another’s negligence, please contact an experienced Los Angeles car accident lawyer who will fight to protect your rights and help you receive maximum compensation for your injuries, damages and losses.
