Two Injured in Los Angeles Car Accident

By

Two people were seriously injured in a Los Angeles car accident after two vehicles collided head-on in La Tuna Canyon. According to a CBS News report, the injury car accident occurred the morning of February 27, 2011 in the 8300 block of West La Tuna Canyon Road. It appears that one of the vehicles crossed over into opposing lanes of traffic causing the head-on collision. Two people were transported to area hospitals, one with broken ribs. An investigation is ongoing.

I sincerely hope neither one of the victims in this car accident sustained life-threatening injuries. I wish them both the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep these injured victims in your thoughts and prayers.

Los Angeles Car Accidents

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 121 fatalities and 4,683 injuries involving car accidents in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. Also, countywide, car accidents claimed 667 lives and injured 52,229 people during the same year.

Laws and Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it appears that one of the drivers may have entered into opposing lanes of traffic and collided head-on with the other vehicle. California Vehicle Code Section 21651 (a): “Whenever a highway has been divided into two or more roadways by means of intermittent barriers or by means of a dividing section of not less than two feet in width, either unpaved or delineated by curbs, double-parallel lines, or other markings on the roadway, it is unlawful…to drive any vehicle over, upon, or across the dividing section.”

There are still a number of unanswered questions here. What caused this head-on collision? Was one of the drivers under the influence? Was one of the drivers fatigued or distracted? Did speed play a part in this car accident? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway which may have caused or contributed to this car accident? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine what occurred and why.

In such cases, it would be in the best interests of injured victims to seek the counsel of an experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer who will analyze all aspects of the incident and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also be able to explain how the victim’s car insurance policy might apply to an incident where the at-fault driver is uninsured or underinsured.
