Irvine Bicycle Accident Causes Injuries

By

A bicycle accident at a street intersection in Irvine the morning of September 8, 2010, resulted in injuries to the cyclist. The Orange County Register reports that the collision happened at the intersection of Daybreak and Blue Lake North when the bicyclist was hit by a Chevrolet pickup truck. It is not clear how badly the bicyclist was hurt. Officials are investigating the cause of this accident.

I hope the bicyclist did not sustain catastrophic injuries in this collision. I pray that this victim recovers quickly and completely.

Car Accidents

There were 5 fatalities and 840 injuries involving Irvine car accidents. In Orange County as a whole, 152 people died and 13,414 were injured as a result of car accidents during the same year.

Causes and Compensation Issues

Based on this news report, it is not clear how or why this accident occurred. There are several unanswered questions here. Was alcohol a factor? Was the driver distracted, inattentive or otherwise negligent? Did the driver fail to yield right-of-way to the bicyclist? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway, which may have caused or contributed to this collision? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine who was at fault.

If the driver is determined to have been at fault for the accident, then, he could be held liable. Victims in such cases would be well-advised to retain the services of a reputed Irvine personal injury lawyer, who will advise them about their legal rights and options. A skilled car accident lawyer will also be able to determine whether a dangerous or defective roadway contributed to the incident. If that was the case, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway could also be held liable. Please remember that any personal injury claim against a public entity must be filed within 180 days of the accident or injury, under California Government Code Section 911.2.
