Five Injured in Sacramento County Truck Accident

By

Five people were injured in a truck accident on State Route 12 in Sacramento County after a semi-truck rear-ended another vehicle.

According to an ABC 10 news report, the injury crash occurred on the afternoon of May 27 when heavy traffic was stopped on the eastbound side of State Route 12 east of Jackson Slough Road in Sacramento County.

Rear-End Collision

The semi-truck that was hauling cars reportedly failed to slow down or stop in time when approaching the stopped vehicles. It ended up crashing into the back of a white minivan triggering a chain-reaction crash into three other vehicles in front of the minivan, California Highway Patrol officials sad.

The truck then crossed into the westbound lane and hit two more cars that were traveling westbound, officials said. The driver of the minivan was transported to an area hospital with major injuries. Four other patients were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. CHP is investigating the crash and does not believe alcohol or drugs were factors.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this collision. We wish them all the very best for a quick and full recovery.

Causes and Compensation Issues

Based on this news report, officials say they don’t believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision. However, there are a number of other questions here. Why did the truck fail to slow down or stop for stopped traffic ahead? Was the truck driver distracted at the time? Was he or she fatigued or falling asleep at the wheel? Was the truck traveling at an excessive or unsafe rate of speed? Did the truck suffer brake malfunction before the crash, which made it impossible to stop in time?

These are all important questions that must be answered in order to determine what went wrong here and who should be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. If the truck driver or trucking company are believed to have been negligent, injured victims can seek compensation by filing a truck accident claim.

They may be able to seek compensation for losses including medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. An experienced California truck accident lawyer will be able to advise injured victims in such cases regarding their legal rights and options. A knowledgeable lawyer will also be able to help collect and compile evidence that could be crucial in a truck accident case.
