Hildeliza Rios, 80, was injured in a San Fernando hit and run crash the morning of Nov. 19. According to a KTLA news report, the 911 call about the hit-and-run at the intersection of North Maclay Avenue and 8th Street came in around 10:30 a.m. Rios was found complaining of pain in the back and legs. Responders transported her to a local hospital for treatment of moderate injuries.
Driver Fled the Scene
A witness followed the suspect vehicle, which has been described as a navy blue Chevy crew cab pickup with paper plates, but wasn’t able to keep up. The vehicle did not stop and the driver did not try rendering aid to the victim, police said. The victim’s daughter, Erica Rosa Lopez, issued a plea to the driver saying he should turn himself in. The driver has been described as a white male who was wearing a tan shirt at the time of the incident. No further details have been released. Anyone with information is asked to call San Fernando police at 818-898-1256.
We are relieved to note that Rios did no suffer life-threatening injuries as a result of this hit and run crash. We wish her the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.
Hit-and-Run Laws
California Vehicle Code 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.” The law also states and motorists involved in collisions must exchange pertinent information with all parties involved including driver’s license and insurance details. In addition, drivers are required to render aid to the injured victim. In this case, the victim was an elderly woman who was left in the roadway, injured and exposed to further danger.
Justice for Victims
Injured victims of hit-and-run crashes tend to be left with physical injuries, emotional trauma and also the financial strain of meeting expenses relating to their medical care and lost income. In such cases, injured victims would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles hit and run lawyer who will remain on their side, stay on top of the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
