A construction worker identified as 45-year-old Isaac Paul Lopez of Corona, was killed in a Victorville car accident after he and three others were struck by an SUV. According to a news report, the fatal collision occurred around noon on March 25 in a construction zone along Hesperia Road south of Green Tree Boulevard.
Officials said a white Chevy Suburban traveling northbound, for unknown reasons, drifted off the roadway and struck the four men who were working at the location near an excavator. When deputies arrived, they found that the victims had suffered from multiple injuries. Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene and another man was airlifted to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The other two victims were transported via ground ambulances to local hospitals. The nature and extent of injuries suffered by the other workers are not known. Authorities said the driver of the SUV cooperated with investigators at the scene. No arrests or citations were reported. The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies at 760-241-2911.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of Isaac Paul Lopez. We also wish the other injured victims the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.
Causes and Compensation Issues
Based on this news report, it appears that the driver of the SUV drifted off the roadway and struck the workers, fatally injuring Lopez. However, it is unclear what caused the driver to go off the roadway. There are a number of unanswered questions here. Was the driver under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs? Was the driver distracted by a cell phone or something else in the vehicle? Did the driver fall asleep at the wheel? We trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine what happened and why.
In such cases, the at-fault driver can be held liable for the injuries, damages and losses caused. Injured victims can seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost income, hospitalization, cost of rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress. Families of deceased victims can seek compensation by filing a wrongful death lawsuit as well. An experienced car accident lawyer in San Bernardino County will be able to advise victims and their families regarding their legal rights and options.
