Anaheim Woman Killed in Long Beach Hit and Run Crash

By

A 22-year-old Anaheim woman has been fatally injured in a Long Beach pedestrian accident, which officials said, involved a suspected hit-and-run driver. According to a news report in the Orange County Register, police responded to he 5500 block of East Second Street early morning on Oct. 28 and found the woman lying in the street. Officials say she was walking on the center median of Second Street near Tivoli Drive when she fell into the number one lane of eastbound Second Street.

A pickup truck was seen stopping before it hit the woman, but ended up striking the woman and fleeing. Paramedics rushed the victim to an area hospital where she died from her injuries. The hit-and-run vehicle was described as a white work truck, possibly a Ford F-150 with a silver toolbox in the bed and emblem on the driver’s side. Police don’t have a physical description of the motorist. Anyone with information is asked to call 562-570-7358.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family members of the deceased pedestrian. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Hit-and-Run Crashes in the LA Area

According to data analyzed by NBC, in Los Angeles, a hit-and-run crash occurs about once every 18 minutes. Also, CHP data shows that more 28,000 reported hit and run crashes during that year occurred over a widespread area of the county at an alarming rate. Nearly 50 percent of all traffic accidents in Los Angeles County were hit-and-run cases. The national average is 11 percent, according to the American Automobile Association.

Laws and Liability Issues

It is a felony crime under California law to leave the scene of an injury or fatal crash. California Vehicle Code 20001 (a) states: “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”

Motorists are required to stop right away regardless of who was at fault for the accident. In such cases, it is important that families of victims seek the counsel of an experienced Los Angeles hit and run lawyer who will remain on their side, stay on top of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights are protected every step of the way.
