Boy Seriously Injured in Los Angeles Hit and Run Crash

By

A boy suffered severe injuries in a hit-and-run crash in Pacoima the evening of May 15. According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the boy was walking home from Pacoima Elementary School at the intersection of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Montague Avenue when the collision occurred. According to LAPD, a van that was northbound on Laurel Canyon rear-ended a 2006 Kia Spectra. The impact sent the Spectra sliding into a crosswalk when it struck a man and a boy who were crossing Montague Avenue headed north along Laurel Canyon.

Hit-and-Run Driver at Large

The boy was rushed to an area hospital with severe injuries and underwent surgery. The man was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The van, which officials say, caused the wreck, fled the scene and was described as an older-model Chevrolet can, possibly bluish-gray, with a blue strip around the midline. The driver was described as a white or Hispanic man with a full-faced beard. Anyone with information on the crash is urged to call LAPD detectives at 818-644-8035 or 818-644-8000.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to this child who has been severely injured in this hit-and-run crash. We wish him and the man who was injured, the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Leaving the Scene of the Crash

Based on this news report, it appears that the van, which caused the wreck that injured the man and the child, left the scene of the crash. Under California Vehicle Code Section 20001 (a), it is a felony crime to leave the scene of a car accident when someone has been injured or killed. The law requires motorists to stop immediately at the scene of the crash, exchange pertinent information with everyone involved and most importantly, render aid to anyone who was injured.

In such cases, injured victims and their families suffer significant financial burdens as they have to face unforeseen expenses such as cost of medical care. In such cases where the at-fault driver has not been identified or apprehended, injured victims may be able to seek and obtain compensation through the uninsured motorist clause of their own auto insurance policies. Victims and their families would be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles hit and run lawyer who will fight to protect their rights and help them secure compensation for injuries and damages sustained.
