Three Pedestrians Injured In South Los Angeles Car Accident

By

A mother and two children were hospitalized with injuries after a car went out of control and struck them the afternoon of October 27, 2014.

According to a CBS Los Angeles news report, the injury accident occurred when the victims were at a bus bench along the 1100 block of West Jefferson Boulevard near Vermont Avenue.

A 32-year-old woman and a 1-year-old girl were
transported to an area hospital in critical condition and a 3-year-old girl was hospitalized in serious condition.

The driver of the car apparently lost control before crashing into the bench near USC’s University Village. The driver was not injured. Officials are looking into whether the driver lost control because she swerved to avoid another vehicle. No arrests or citations were reported. The investigation is still ongoing.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims of this crash. We wish them the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Accident Statistics

Countywide, 203 people died and 4,821 were injured due to pedestrian collisions during the same year.

What Caused This Crash?

Based on this news report, officials say the driver of the vehicle lost control and then struck the mother and two children who were at a bus stop. There are still several questions here.

Was the driver under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs? Was the driver distracted or inattentive? Did excessive speed or recklessness play a part? Did a dangerous condition on the roadway cause or contribute to the incident?

We trust officials are looking into these or other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Fault and Liability

If the driver is determined to have been at fault here, she could be held liable for the injuries and damages caused. Injured victims can seek compensation for damages including medical expenses, lost wages, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pain and suffering and emotional distress.

Injured victims would also be well advised to contact an experienced Los Angeles personal injury attorney who will stay abreast of the official investigation and ensure that the negligent parties are held liable.
