Los Angeles Car Accident Injures Seven

By

Seven people were injured in a Los Angeles car accident after two cars struck each other on a busy Reseda street. According to a CBS News report, the two cars were traveling north on Louise Avenue the night of August 17, 2010, when one vehicle tried to pass the other. This resulted in the collision. The vehicles then hit the curb, a power pole and then went into the front yard of a home. No one was in the home at the time of the crash. But seven people in both cars including a 5-year-old child were hurt. Three of the seven victims sustained critical injuries. However, everyone is expected to survive. An investigation is ongoing.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone injured in this San Fernando Valley car crash. I wish all the injured victims the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 268 deaths and 25,588 injuries involving car accidents in Los Angeles. In Los Angeles County as a whole, 667 people were killed and 52,229 people were injured in car accidents during the same year.

Accident Laws

If the details of this news report are accurate, it appears that one of the driver tried to make an unsafe pass. California Vehicle Code section 21750 states: “The driver of a vehicle overtaking another vehicle or a bicycle proceeding in the same direction shall pass to the left at a safe distance without interfering with the safe operation of the overtaken vehicle or bicycle, subject to the limitations and exceptions hereinafter stated.”

Liability Issues

The at-fault driver in this case could be held liable for injuries, damages and losses caused to the victims. I trust officials are also looking into whether any of the drivers involved were impaired, distracted, reckless, or otherwise negligent. Injured victims in such cases could seek compensation to cover medical expenses, loss of wages, cost of hospitalization, rehabilitation and other related damages. An experienced Los Angeles personal injury lawyer will be able to advise victims and their families about their legal rights and options.
